Monarchs Need Your Help!
If you have seen the headlines, you know that monarch numbers are down due to habitat loss and climate change. Monarch Watch is the leader in habitat restoration for monarchs. In 2005, we initiated the Monarch Waystation program to encourage property owners to grow milkweeds and nectar plants for monarchs. Today there are nearly 50 thousand Monarch Waystations and we work with 5 nurseries across the country to produce milkweeds for much of the US. These nursery plants are used for habitat restoration but are also available for school and home gardens. Through these programs we have distributed more than 1 million milkweeds since 2010. These efforts have been funded by contributions from concerned citizens, other non-profits and corporations. Your contributions will allow us to expand our efforts to create more habitats for monarchs.
Your One Day One KU donation will be used to:
- Provide free native milkweeds to schools, educational nonprofits, and habitat-restoration projects
- Distribute educational resources about the importance of milkweeds and nectar plants for monarchs and how to create a Monarch Waystation
Monarch Watch is also a leader in research and outreach. We collaborate with and aide other scientists and through our outreach efforts and public events engage more than 100,000 people each year. Your support for these efforts is appreciated. Thank you!
