At the KU Biodiversity Institute and Natural History Museum (BI/NHM), we explore and share the wonders of life on Earth—past and present—through research, exhibits, and educational programs. We invite you to support our mission by contributing to our One Day One KU giving campaign. Your gift will directly support the care and maintenance of our live exhibits and help fund scholarships for school programs. Together, we can inspire curiosity and a deeper understanding of our world’s biodiversity!
Support our Live Exhibits
Our unique live exhibits include the Bee Tree, Bugtown, the Paleo Garden, and snakes and anole lizards. These exhibits bring energy and wonder to the museum and are some of our visitors’ most beloved exhibits. However, maintaining them requires ongoing care and attention. From watering plants to providing extra nourishment for the bees during winter, our exhibits team works tirelessly year-round to keep these plants and animals healthy and happy. Your donation, no matter the amount, will help ensure that these living exhibits continue to thrive and bring joy to museum visitors.
Support our School Scholarships
The KU Natural History Museum is proud to offer scholarship funding to support economically disadvantaged schools, helping to cover program and transportation costs for in-person field trips. These scholarships are typically awarded to schools where 50% or more of students are eligible for free or reduced lunch. Last year, we awarded 13 full scholarships and served 844 students across five counties in Kansas and two counties in Missouri.
Our programs include interactive workshops and gallery activities that allow students to explore and investigate topics on biodiversity, geology, and more. By removing financial barriers, we’re making it possible for all students to experience the wonders of science in a way that inspires curiosity and sparks a lifelong love of learning.
